Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Read more...A short walk from Dalmunzie Castle hoping that gaining some height would afford us some better views of the surrounding hills.

Tuesday, 16 February 2010

Read more...Today was a very special day for us: the wedding of our eldest son James to Olivia at Dalmunzie Castle in Perthshire. A stunning location for a wedding. It truly was a memorable day.

Monday, 15 February 2010

Read more...An evening of of fun and games as we all join in with a murder mystery evening.

Langdon Cliffs, Dover
Friday, 12 February 2010

Read more...We enjoyed a short walk on the cliff-top path today; really so we could see somewhere we walk fairly regularly looking very different in the snowy conditions. The weather sadly was very overcast so it wasn’t going to make for exciting pictures but considering the conditions I think my new camera coped very well.

Snowy Sandwich
Thursday, 11 February 2010

Read more...We have lived in Sandwich for 25years and in all that time I have never known as much snow to fall and lay as it has done over the last 24 hours. Coinciding with this I also had a new camera, a Nikon D90, which I was itching to try out. So once it finally stopped snowing I was keen to get out and give it its first test run.

Oare Creek and Oare Marshes
Sunday, 31 January 2010

Read more...We visit the Oare Marshes nature reserve quite regularly as it’s one of our favourite places to go birdwatching.  From autumn to spring in particular it’s a great place to see overwintering wildfowl and waders.  As today was a lovely, sunny winter Sunday we decided to visit, but rather than try to park on the busy site we parked at Oare village and walked alongside Oare Creek to reach the nature reserve.

Mellbreak
Tuesday, 12 January 2010
Read more...After the winter wonderland on Saturday this was perhaps a more authentic winter walking experience.  Brooding skies, knee-deep snowdrifts and a strong wind blowing spindrift into our faces made for an exhilarating walk up Mellbreak.  Many thanks to Roger (and Harry and Bethan) for guiding us along paths that were seldom obvious, but always fun to follow.

Early morning walk to Scale Hill
Tuesday, 12 January 2010
Read more...An early morning walk with my camera to see what kind of sunrise there would be. Sadly it was a very overcast morning so no sign of the sun at all but it was still a very enjoyable walk and the views from the small in stature Scale Hill make it well worth a visit.

Rannerdale and Buttermere
Sunday, 10 January 2010
Read more...It is always hard to believe when you look out of the window on the morning after a stunning day to see that overnight it has turned cloudy and windy, but that was just what happened. We drove to Buttermere where we walked up the lower slopes of Rannerdale Knotts in increasing wind before walking down to the lakeside of Buttermere.

Loweswater local walk
Saturday, 09 January 2010
Read more...We were very lucky to be able to combine dropping off our youngest son at Lancaster University and a visit to our good friends Ann and Roger, who live in Loweswater in the Lake District.  Although the snowy weather conditions were not great for travelling north, they did give us our first ever chance to see the area in beautiful wintry conditions.
