Homestead Detail shown by the light snow cover The thaw really had set in yesterday when a lot of sleety rain had fallen during the day, although it looked to us like a fresh layer of snow had fallen on the fells. We had accompanied Roger when he walked Harry and Bethan and he went to Scale Hill, a small hill you wouldn’t take much notice of unless you knew the area and appreciated what a great viewpoint it is. I hadn’t even taken my camera with me on that damp day as I knew I wouldn’t get any pictures I would be happy with. But when I woke up early this morning and looked outside to see much brighter conditions I fancied taking an early morning stroll while everyone else was still asleep. The roads may have looked clear of snow but it was still very icy in places with plenty of black ice about so my Microspikes were put on once more from the start of the walk. Sunrise was just before 8.30 so it really was quite dark when I set off on what was a quite overcast morning. It really was still quite dark when I was taking pictures for a panorama from the top of Scale Hill at just before 9.00. I wasn’t really sure it would work but in all I took 17 pictures which when loaded into Microsoft ICE created a 360° panorama. Panorama created from 4 images
Whiteside and Grasmoor dominated the view close by but sadly the view towards the higher fells at the head of the Buttermere valley was obscured by some very grey looking clouds. Towards Low Fell, however, the clouds were far more broken and with some blue sky visible perhaps today wouldn’t be too bad after all. The day before, Roger had noticed a feature on the ground above Lanthwaite Green which is marked on the OS Explorer Map as a “Homestead”. I made sure I got a zoomed in picture of this from Scale Hill as well. The snow had settled into the features and it now could be seen. Scale Bridge boathouse Breaking waves on Crummock Water
After enjoying the view on Scale Hill I made my way down to Crummock Water, which with the strength of the wind had some impressive waves breaking over the outflow. I had really enjoyed my little walk, but soon enough I was back at Oak Cottage where a very welcome bowl of porridge was waiting for me :o)

I loved the last few shots of Crummock Water, as you said, very atmospheric.
Best wishes
