Snowy garden
We have lived in Sandwich for25years and in all that time I have never known as much snow to fall and lay as it has done over the last 24 hours. Living as close to the coast as we do, the temperature is normally a few degrees warmer than inland and this kind of weather often misses us completely. Coinciding with this I also had a new camera, a Nikon D90, which I was itching to try out. The only problem was it just didn’t want to stop snowing and the grey, flat light does nothing for good photos. I also didn’t really want to take my shiny new camera out in bad weather for its first outing.

So I waited until after lunch when it finally stopped snowing before I ventured out, just like a lot of other people. It’s amazing what a bit of snow does to people and lots of people had big smiles on their faces. Others were also out with their cameras. With every local school shut due to no one being able to use the roads first thing in the morning there were also plenty of youngsters about having fun too.

I never quite expected to be wearing my Kahtoola Microspikes in Sandwich I must admit but I was very pleased as I kept hearing people saying “watch out, it’s slippery” knowing there was no way I’d be slipping about all the time I was wearing them.

I walked around Sandwich hoping for the sun to shine just a bit as I think to get the best out of any snowy pictures a bit of blue sky and sunshine always helps, and every now and again it did just that. This hadn’t been the only time we’d had snow here, however, as we also had quite a bit back at the beginning of January. I took photos then as well and on that occasion the sun was shining. The difference it made to the pictures is very striking, so in the gallery that accompanies this journal entry there are a few pictures from that morning as well.

I think for my new cameras first outing it gave me a chance to see what I’m going to be able to achieve with it and I think we are going to get on very wel
